I bought a cheap surge protector at a flea market, attached it to a wall outlet, but when I plug in a device, got a spark. then I thrown the protector away. found out the outlet and some outlets in my house don't have power, I checked the main switch box, no breaker jumped, but I still reset all of them. Didn't work. There are some breakers on the outlet in my house, I reset them all, didn't work. What is wrong? How to detect?
thanks
charlie

by all means call a licensed eletrician, not just some handy man. the service call should be around 100.00 or so plus parts and labor. but a small price to pay for some peace of mind. the best surge protector you can buy are the ones that attach directly to the elecrical panel and installed by a professional.

I would have taken the surge protector back and tell them that it shorted out some of the outlets in your house and send them the bill for having an electrician come out to fix it.

The problem was more than likely the outlet you plugged into, not the power strip. Do what everyone else is suggesting and call an electrician. Tell him your story and show him the outlet.

Call an electrician. A wire may be disconnected or burned out upstream of the breaker. Serious danger if you do not know much about electricity

Call the man. This could be a fire hazzard.
