When I played the coach made us throw the basketball up against the backboard without touching the rim. You would keep jumping and throwing the ball against the backboard nonstop. We would do this for five minutes stop and keep doing it. It was very good for enhancing our rebounding skills and conditioning, just like suicides.

best thing you can do is to stand at different areas on the court and watch the flight of the ball when somebody shoots. the idea is to have an idea where the ball is going, where it will bounce after hitting the backboard or rim. if you can "read the ball" you can position yourself better for the actual rebound. positioning is more valuable than jumping high. when you are in position for the rebound you can use your body to block out others, if you read the ball right. then ACT to the shot instead of REACTING after the ball hits the rim.....good luck

When a shot goes up, box out the person you are defending, go up with both hands, grab the ball and secure it in your chest to avoid being stolen by the opponent.

I would recommend shooting the ball, then just hustling after the rebound.
This will build awareness, conditioning, and get you some hustle points if you actually go after it.
