Am I ever going to find a decent 4x4. How about the Honda CRV? I live in the country and basically need something to get me up off the ground as our village is surrounded by flooded fords, acres of surface water and huge pot holes. Anyone got any ideas of a good reliable vehicle?

Steer clear if you want to get good value for money. Inherant turbo failure caused by boost sensors and ecm programming. Gearbox failure caused by incorrect design of gearbox oil level plug, level plug is too low, of course when someone checks it and the level seems to high, they drain of the excess and let the level settle at the bottom of the plug, causing oil starvation to bearings within g/box and eventual failure. Premature tyre wear, they eat front tyres, quite heavy on brake componants. High pressure fuel pumps wearing internally causing lack of power and mil.

The most important thing you can do is to buy the "Lemon Book"... NO exceptions. Most books and magazines are paid off by the car companies. Sometimes there can be problems with a vehicle that was built in say a three month period or only on a certain model or engine type. The lemon book will be very specific to each and every problem. My family owns car lots and I've grown up in a buying/selling environment. Although, I'm not a big Nissan fan, there are some vehicles that they have made that weren't too bad. The off-roading capabilities are a little weak - more for the preppy than the actual exploring people. But I hope you find a great vehicle that you'll love!

Nice motor mate but the best 4x4 is the range rover. Goes on and on with little or no trouble and really comfortable to drive.
