O.K., these are just some personal observations, and of course do not reflect all Baby Boomers; however, I do see many common patterns among this age bracket in today's society among the Baby Boom generation:

Too many Baby Boomers feel that they have to follow trends and fads found in pop culture.
They try to compete with one another a great deal of the time.
They are often jealous of younger people so many resort to plastic surgery, which never looks right because true youth can only be created through innocence.
They try to act as if they were twenty or thirty years old again instead of acting their age.
Many Baby Boomers consider popularity and group activity to be more important than individuality.

So why are these commonalities found within this peer group? Do you believe that it has to do with being raised in a society dominated by army/military propaganda? Do you believe that the generations X and Y will follow these same patterns? What patterns will x & y follow?

I think the Baby Boomers biggest problem is their hypocracy towards people who want to do what they were capable of doing. They are selfish and have taken advantage of the situation by sheer numbers to exploit our society continually. Want to see the biggest differences..... look at the schools and social rules in public places..... more rules now....which make more trouble makers.... and create bigger problems....

who is responsible for many scenarios like this

EXAMPLE...

a 9 year old in 1970 hits a playmate with a bat during recess at school... he gets whipped by his teacher who catches him.... marched to the office for another whipping....his parents called for another whipping... and a few days at home... plus a trip to the kids house where he and his parents have to repeatedly apologize to the family and pay for hospital bills if necessary...

flashfoward....to now... same scenario has a 9 year old in therapy, anger management, a case worker, and psychologist reports.... oh and a criminal record... the parents and schools are in lawsuits and everyone is making money but the problem is not being addressed what advancement under the babyboomers public school policies

apply that to all the government agencies and places of work... the took options for local people to exercise religious values in schools and local governments and have replaced it with the political correctness of the state..... society has become more i'll get mine you get yours than how can we get ours and enjoy .... ie the age of legal threats and terrorism... thank you boomers

they have stolen the character of the country...thats why every community now seems to be so similar... look it is impossible sometimes to tell one community from another

Wow, ok, let's see. I'm at the tail end of the boomers--I'll be 55 next month, so I may not be representative of my generation, but here we go: I don't nor do I know any of us that follow trends & fads anymore than anyone else does--for me it's not at all. Jealous of younger people, not really, I take care of my looks becaouse I like to look as good as I can (and as much as I can afford) and "true youth...only though innocence" (??) mmm? poetic maybe, but I'm not sure how true that is. And, popularity/group activity vs. individuality also, not true of those that I know--we're too busy working, raising families & basically surviving. Competition is required to succeed in money matters. Keeping up with the Jones-es has been happening in every generation since one cave guy moved into a bigger cave than his buddy. I does not have to do with the military's influence at all--it's to do with advertising. And yes, generaltions x, y and z, ad infinitum will follow these same patterns, its human nature, not generations.--and btw, no offence taken, young-un. ;)

very interesting pattern you brought to light. its hard for me to see it though because my parents were more of the hippies among the baby boomers and not the country club group which it sounds like you are mentioning, but you have a point.

Do you believe that it has to do with being raised in a society dominated by army/military propaganda? I think that baby boomers parents were more exposed to that and it seemed to affect them positively, by feeling that whatever they are able to do can help their country and by working as hard as they can they are proving they are more patriotic while providing for their families. I think that what was rubbed off to the baby boomers were to work hard and provide as much as you can for your families and for the generation X is to basically make as much $ as one possibly can. While the baby boomers are at the top of their game now and towards retirement they are seeing the new generation X take over and winning over in new positions in much more advanced ways and with such a youthful generation taking over, the enormous amount of individuals created by the baby boomers themselves, what else would society begin to desire is a youthful appearance which in turns means fresh new ideas in the business world ergo babyboomers trying to remain forever young. generation x is messed up already. hopefully generation y will not have a gigantic mess to clean up and they will be able to support themselves and their own families to come after the self serving generations of baby boomers and generation x has passed.

but...thats just my opinion, it is a huge topic to cover and i could keep writing but like i said, its not all based on solid fact just heresy so...who knows. quite a poignant question though !

nope, generation x/y probably wont follow those patterns. The Baby Boomers grew up in a diffrent set of mind then we can imagen. They don't act there age, because, well they dont know wht. there age is supposted act like. They spent all of there lives, execpt now, thinking about war, or serving in the war. Now, all they want to do is learn what they missed out on. If the War in Iraq last's i think it's safe to say that there will be another baby boomer generation.

I recognize precisely what you imply. I'm 19 and I are not able to stand while my dad behaves that means both. But there is a vibrant part to it, I've discovered methods to fend for myself being unbiased seeing that he in no way particularly helped with some thing. I make the equal sum of money as him proper now (he is a janitor) I'm getting my trade measure in school proper now too. You're alot like me, I you should be the reverse of him and think ashamed very commonly... I consider that new release of guys used to be very feminized. It's now not his fault, it is what they had been taught to be developing up by way of wellknown tradition and the media I love him despite the fact that and check out to get as near as I can.

A lot of these tendencies are common in every age group. There are more people in the "Baby Boomer" group, so maybe it seems more of us are doing these things, but we don't have a monopoly on these characterstics, believe me. Just remember, without us there would have been no sexual revolution or draft dodgers or quite possibly life as you know it.

Substitute the word "people" for Baby Boomers" and you'll be all set.

I think you are totally wrong.

This generation seems to be the first ones to push the envelope and stand up for what they believed.

I think they act and look a lot younger than their parents at the same age.....I think they don't want to be put in a box with the same label.

You're doing what I think they don't want.
