It doesn't "guarantee" anything, it enumerates (points out and lists) basic human rights that are inalianable and have ALWAYS been there, since man has existed. It then protects those rignts and makes it a violation of law to supress them. The first ten Amendment to the Constitution created the laws protecting these enumeated (Bill of) rights. Most people have no idea how far those rights really extend.

Basically, it protects you from oppression by the government against you: right to free speach, unlawfull searches without warrant, self incrimination, right to keep and bare arms, right to speedy trial, etc.
