Yes and no,and each year we have to build bigger jails and prisons,I think some of the drug charges need to be changed, so that we don't have our young people rotting in jails, you can commit murder and do a lesser sentence than if you are caught in possession of drugs, although I do think that drug lords need to be rounded up and do a lot of time.
So yes, the person who committed a crime is off the streets, which is a good thing, the cost of keeping one person in prison is a very costly proposition, most of the prisons, you have three meals a day, an exercise yard, TV room, if federal prison you might get a golf course, if you have all that, why would some people want to leave, so now you are a prisoner, who is going to trust you when you get out, where are you going to be employed,? where are you going to live,? the percentage of recidivism is very high, because the person once out of prison can't make it alone on the outside, and by the time the person gets out they are used to a structured life, and they need it.
Sorry, I am going off on a tangent, no I don't think it is beneficial to everyone, and I do believe the lesser crimes, should have some training programs in place, like when you have too many driving tickets and have to go to school in order to get your license back.

When you have a large percentage spending years in there for possessing a weed that grows wild along side the road I'd say no, when you add to that the fact that 10% of death row inmates are being found innocent after DNA testing.. I'd Say HELL no...
The problem is with crooked pork barrel cash cow legislators, Dem and Repub.

Well, they are a place to get criminals out of society. However, the culture in prisons only makes some criminals worse.

As long as the penalty is just and the criminals are handed out appropriate sentences.

I think it's useless to send some of them to jail when they only get light sentences and are released early.

i would say yes

it gives the victim piece of mind to know the offender is off the streets

the criminal gets to live, or in lighter situations doesnt have public humiliation such as stocades or getting pented with rotten fruit.. also safety so mobs don;t kill them
