I can't view Yahoo mail when I am at work. The system restricts such use. Is there a way around it?

Your question should read: "What's the easiest way to get fired at work?"

The answer, of course, would be to try to circumvent your companies security methodology.

When you were hired, you signed a document which says you would follow a code of ethics or corporate guidelines. Every time you boot up your work PC, there is most likely a splash screen that describes unauthorized use on the corporate network.

Your IT Dept. has a good reason for not allowing Yahoo mail traffic as it represents non-productive work time activity AND could present a security threat to the network.

I think the easiest way around the restricted sites is to get another job where their team doesn't block the traffic.

That really depends on how good your IT guys are. :)

Being one of those guys that help prevent this type of activity at my place of employement, I'd tell you that circumventing company policy at my place can get your fired. Maybe your work has a similar policy?

So be warned. The first step is to see if they've blocked proxy/tunnel sites. There are MANY (>100) of them and new ones show up all the time. If you are allowed access to one of them, then you should be good to go.

With that said, be aware that if they're blocking sites then they're probably also monitoring locations visited. It wouldn't be hard at all for them to identify a site as a proxy site the same day it is first used in the company.

Enough said.

I agree with everyone stating that if you don't have access to a site like Yahoo then it is because of company policy. You get people sitting at work only reading and e-mails instead of doing their work. Well I can see that from all the junk e-mails I get from friends when I download e-mail at the evening, almost all of them sent to me during working hours.

Companies give their employees corporate e-mail addresses to have ways of communicating. All these e-mails goes through spam and content filters and that is why people prefer to use Yahoo instead of the corporate e-mail because their buddies can't send them the junk, they normally receive on their yahoo e-mail, to their corporate e-mail.

There are several ways for a company to deny access to various web pages. The work-around you use will depend upon the method by which you are being disallowed access. To help us figure out the method in use, you'll need to let me know what sort of message you get when you try to access yahoo mail. Try copying the text verbatim from the "access disallowed" page. Thanks!

not really the work place computer has barriers to prevent this when the company's system, is designed for this not to happen, if it did, each time you accessed one of these sites that are restricted some one would know it was you that did it, this is designed to protect the company's computer files, from some out side hacking, that would compromise the company's data files.

You have to add yahoo to the list of allowed firewall and filter applications. Usually you go to the gateway ip address for the network, then its easy from there. But every router is different.

it is occurring to me too. unusual. Edit: i have been able to get admission to some web pages through Proxy. perhaps you should attempt that for the little while period. Edit: Youtube and some different web pages are operating for me back yet different web pages which include BBC are nonetheless 'down'. i wish this receives taken care of for each body. :)

don't worry about harming your companys data files, depending on what type of blocker they have on depends on how/if you can get round them. If they block certain web addresses e.g. www.yahoo.co.uk then just type http://yahoo.co.uk into the address bar, if they block key words then I cannot help you but that .torrify thingy is quite good I know a couple of people that use it.

Good luck!!

ask someone at your company. you have to override their system, not yahoo's.
