The Shining was directed by Stanley Kubrick, but it's based on a book by Stephen King with the same name.

Stephen King had NO input on the 1980 Kubrick version of 'The Shining'. It was simply based on the novel he had written. King never liked this version of the movie. Mick Garris directed the 1997 mini-series based on the King novel. The teleplay (script) for the mini-series WAS written by King himself. The ONLY movie King has ever directed was 'Maximum Overdrive'.

Stephen King wrote the book that the movie is based on. In 1997, a miniseries was made that was more true to the novel, but it's not very good.

There are two "The Shining" one was under mild supervision of Stephen King. but drirected by Stanely Kubrick.
The second one was drirected by Stephen King After the first one because King did not like how the first one under Kubrick came out.
