basically whats an emo whats a prep and which one are you

ok a prep is we the dudes wear polos and those plaid pants and wear holister and all those nice brands and they are normaly popular cheerleaders stuff like that but there is nothing wrong with that bc my little sister is a cheerleader and im popular
and emo stand for emotional and as humans we are all emotional and we all are emo at some point. people just put those people in a sterotype because they are diffrent not all emo ppl cut some preps cut hell im a rocker and i cut that dont make me emo it means i have some issues i need to work through and no one can rly judge people unless u know who they are like me i have depression and other bad things have happend in my life but people but others into stupid sterotypes by the way they dress honestly i judge people based on how they treat me and emo is a style of music not all about depression and cutting when ppl put ppl in those lables its just ignorance and pppl honestly need to remeber that those same ppl are judging them
but the diffrence of preps is prissy, girly, dresses nice, cheerleaders, rich, and popular but this isnt always what a prep is and emo is a style of music

PREP: a person who comes from a wealthy background and likes to look like a J-Crew model. A person who has little tolerence for people who look different from them. Someone who will only do things if others think it's cool - these things MUST cost money or flaunt wealth.
EMO - a state of total depression and yearning for love... plus a femme haircut for boys and tight band t-shirts. Before they were called Emo - they were called skaters, even if they didn't skateboard. depression in EMO is often fake. many emo kids this year were preps or nerds or jocks last year. don't be a poser.
Preps generally don't like emo kids, and vice versa because Emo is "weird" or whatever. Also, emo is a music style that likes to encompass sadness and a desire to be wanted and loved.
Neither of these classifications are better than the other - both have plenty of flaws and attributes. Classifying people makes you more judgmental when you grow up, so try not to... it's lame.
PS - Emo kids are not the same as goth kids or mall goths - as stated above, emo kids don't wear black and cut themselves - goth kids do. mall goths, on the other hand, lie and SAY they cut themselves.

They are both labels with stereotypes made by retards.
First of all emo is a music genre. How the hell can people be a music genre? Second of all, emo means emotional. Everyone has emotions, meaning everyone is emo. A common misconception is that emos cut themselves, wear striped ties, etc. But anyone can do that.
People think that preps wear pink, have tons of friends, are popular, etc. But they could just as well have problems with eating, friends, and life.

Simply, emo is short for "emotional" and prep is short for "preparatory". Preps are people who wear obnoxiously bright, pastel colors and pop their colors. Plaids are usually a favorite as well. If you see someone who looks like they are coming from a country club-that's pretty much prep. Abacrombie&Fitch is really preppy.
Emo's are kids who wear waaay to much eye-liner and always wear black. Their hair can be very long. Basically they are kinda depressed.
I know that sounds like i'm being really mean to both groups, but im not. I happen to like both groups. :)

They're both stereotypes, groups of people.
Preps (which is really someone who attends preparatory school) are often looked at as 'snobs' 'sluts' or 'popular people' wearing clothes (overrated and overpriced, may I add) from brand name stores such as Abercrombie, Hollister, etc.
Emo is a genre of music similar to punk but not quite as hard, short for emotive-hardcore, but it has also been extended to a category of people who listen to emo music.

I prefer not to classify people under any stereotypes.

I establish with the Goth lifestyle, however that does not imply that I'm consistently unhappy and irritated on the global. I simply admire the draker matters in lifestyles, that is all. Btw, nerds and geeks ROCK!!! All of my peers are geeks and they are probably the most great folks on the earth.

a prep is a person who wears nice clothes, like striped colard shirts. preps shop at places like american eagle, abercrombie &fitch, holister. places like that. and emo is a person who is all sensative, and in some cases cuts themselves.
