Not really. Most the default setting are meant to be in brightly lit room at retail stores. The setting was suppose to draw you to their products. The lighting at home is different from the stores. You'll need to calibrate your tv for your home. Don't use the Vivid setting, instead use the standard, movie or sport mode. If you want to calibrate your tv it's usually a good idea to turn down the brightness and contrast ratio a bit. At a high setting it will shortens the tv's life. You can get the basic calibration from the Star Wars dvds, the Incredibles,....etc... On the options menu there's a Lucas Art calibration program. Or you can buy a calibration dvd like AVE? or AVIA.

Usually. You might want to increase the contrast or brightness a bit if you're in an unusually bright or dark room.

Don't fool with the color settings much. You can change the color, make it really saturated (Disney-channel style), or make everyone orange.

Sometime's there's "warmth" settings, which gives the picture a different feel, such as more blue, etc., but I've generally found the regular settings, contrast/brightness aside, to be find.

I'm more likely to fiddle with the sound settings.
