Only female reindeer/caribou have their antlers through winter to protect their calves. The males shed theirs after the rut (their breeding season). Plus, this makes rudolph a girl and his girlfriend with a pink bow, a boy.

I told this to someone at work and they said of course the females have to pull the sleigh and do the work, while men play the reindeer games at home :)

Well, that doesn't surprise me at all. It is the females who do most of the hunting, nurturing, etc. etc.
The males shed their antlers after having a pissing contest and then....probably have some beers then lay about like so many bags of dirt watching Newcastle United getting the shite beat out of them by almost every football club!!
...sorry, having a bit of PMS I guess.
