They are elements. If they were removed, life as we know it would end. Plants would die from lack of carbon, and WE would die of lack of nitrogen. BTW, it helps if you actually DO the work, if it's for school.

If your looking for carbon, look at yourself, because we are carbon based lifeforms. Nitrogen is pretty much a flamable gas that is used in racing engines.
Google Definitions:
Carbon - The element that defines the chemical properties of all life. All molecules that contain carbon are known as organic molecules and studies by organic chemistry. Carbon is the third most common element in cells, after hydrogen and oxygen, which are the most common biological elements because they are found in water. Also water makes up to 70% of a cells weight, it is not an organic molecule, since it lacks carbon.
Nitrogen - Nitrogen is the chemical element in the periodic table that has the symbol N and atomic number 7. A common normally colorless, odorless, tasteless and mostly inert diatomic non-metal gas, nitrogen constitutes 78 percent of Earth's atmosphere and is a constituent of all living tissues. Nitrogen forms many important compounds such as ammonia, nitric acid, and cyanides.

both carbon and nitrogen are basic elements.
carbon is basic component of almost every living object available in various forms and gets converted to oxidised carbon whed it gets decomposed or burnt in air.
our atmospheric air constitute more than 70% of nitrogen .
the trees converts CO2 to O2 and human being/animals convert O2 to CO2 while breathing
so if we remove animals and plant from carbon cycle lack of O2 or excess of CO2 shall occure, resulting in ecological imbalance

they are both elements and the cycles are how they are used and recycled throughout the earth. If you removed a plant from the cycles it would die.

They are both elements in the periodic table
Carbon is the basis of most natural things
Nitrogen is an atmospheric gas

Both are elements. Plants breath in carbon dioxide and breath out oxygen. Animals breath in oxygen and breath out carbon dioxide. I think.
