I have a fairly big tank maybe 75 gallons or so, maybe more. Its 4 ft long. I have a lot of rocks and plants in it. I have about 7 african cichlids. They are anywhere from 2 to 5 inches in size. I've been thinking about putting up one of those fake backgrounds behind the tank that way you dont see straight through to the wall. I have a lot of money put into my tank between all the fish and big rocks. Do you think that will make my aquarium look cheap or tacky?

Plain colored ones like all black or all blue can actually make the tank look nicer but a lot of the ones with the plants or scenes can make a tank look a little tacky. Just have a look around and see what you like, if you don't want to spend the money just to find out you don't like it you can buy a piece of poster board and hold it back there or tape it just to give you an idea of what the tank backgrounds can look like. I actually just bought a piece of black poster board and I use that on one of my smaller tanks now, it makes the colors on the fish pop.

I have a 55 gallon tank with a background and I think it looks rather nice, it's better than seeing the wall and the wires coming down the back of the tank from the lights. It's all about your personal aesthetic. I'd say go for it, the fish will have something pleasing to look at too :)

i would recommend trying to put your tank somewhere you it can be viewed from either side.. even if it means pulling it away from the wall a bit.. i wouldn't put a fake background. not with fish like that. maybe a goldfish. but not cichlids..

You might even look at grift wrapping paper. Some of it would make a really unique background. I found one that has colorful fishes on it and that is what I use. I have a 55 gal. tank.

Use your imagination, you are not limited to what they sell just for that purpose.

I have a reflective back ground on mine. If you don't like the fake looking backgrounds, then try a reflection. It makes your tank look deeper, and reflects the fish, making it look like there are more of them.

No, I think backgrounds give fishtanks character. You've already put so much money into it, why not decorate it a little bit. Give it a neat background, so,ething unique and uncommon
