Ethics are society made. A person born in a particular society , is expected to have such and such value systems. For example, a man should not be corrupt. If the person feels that corruption is morally bad and strictly follows the principle we will call him an ethical person.

But if the man is tempted to be corrupt but is afraid of the long arms of the law of the land he curbs the urge. In such a case , I would say that, the person has unethical internal thoughts but behaves as an ethical person for the society.

I believe that is why the latterday pundits started to call for morally and ethically good standards.

Unfortunately in our society there a so few people with ethic habits. I am that kind of person...and it is really hard... no one appreciate that. If I don't do something that would hurt my friend....they hurt me all the time because of their personal interests.
But still I'm proud to be the way I am. I just wish I could have a really more ethical friends.

take care.

I think an ethical person is one with strong morals and tries hard to do right in all situations.

I would say that unless someone tries to make himself a better person, he can't make others better.

Both really, if you are a person of good moral character, thereby ethical, you are the type of person others aspire to be. One can change oneself, one can not change others.
