The part of feeling older and mature is true, you feel like that because you think at all the things you had once: the freedom to act childish and have fun just because yo feel like that, the purity you lost, the carefree attitude, all the things that you could have done etc. And the things you have to put on with the responsibility that fallows you wherever you go, the constant burden of living in a world that you have trouble understanding it yourself. The is sadness because you lost the love of life, you wake up one day all alone in an apartment with no one next to you just yourself. This is why they are depressed.
As for stupid and funny things, that's a whole different story. People still do stupid things when the get old, I know a guy in his early 20s who locked himself out of his own apartment and had to break down the door to get in.

Lots of guys wish that they had a girlfriend like you. He can do whatever he wants and has absolutely no responsibility or input into the relationship. Every two weeks, she comes into town, has a little good time playing kissy-face and cuddle-up, and then goes home mad and is out of his hair until she gets lonely again and repeats the process. Let's face it: the arguments aren't over something stupid - your relationship is. And he doesn't have a relationship - you think you do. Quite frankly, it wouldn't be all that difficult to break up with him - all you have to is quit. You want a boyfriend? Quit acting like a hissy-fit mistress and behave like the adult that you are. Spend some time defining your needs and go out and find one that fits, and don't give the idol another undeserving thought. You might have some good memories, but you won't make any more bad ones.

People do still do silly things at all ages; as we get older we just tone such behavior down when it's appropriate. Depression also strikes at all ages, but young adults are particularly vulnerable as they often have a huge set of new responsibilities without the life experience to navigate them confidently. In our culture, most people are completely independent for the first time at or soon after the age of 20 (more like 22 given that the bachelor's degree has become a standard of general education), and the fear that it won't work out looms large for many.

Hey, I'm a 60 year old and still do funny and stupid things (at least, I think they're funny!) You don't sound English or American to be saying things like that. We're not all depressed. Who are you talking to? On what do you base your allegations?

There's an old saying ~ You are only as old as you feel ~ and, apart from a few aches and pains in my body, my brain still feels almost as good as it did when I was 18. Perhaps you were born into a society that expected people over 20 to behave in a "mature" way - without more info, I can't help.

Speak for yourself!!! I am 42. I do lots of stupid things (especially when beautiful mature women are invovled). I do funny things on a dailly basis with my wife, my kids, my friends, and anyone else that has the good fortune to meet me! And I am far from depressed!

The Depression part is not totally accurate but could be due to loosing ones youth.

As one ages you grow and mature giving up those things done by those less mature...

Trust me. At 20 years of age, you're STILL DOING stupid & funny things. You just won't recognize what they are, and why they are stupid or funny, for another 20 years.

It is when you realize that life is more andmore demanding and you are not so protected by your parents anymore. You might be in university and trying to take your driving license, you have a girlfriend or boyfriend that takes a lot of your time, life is changing gradually and you face it taking your own decisions more and more. Decision making is something that can make a person depressed.

People continue to do stupid and funny things all thru their life. As for depression setting in so early, it must be related to not having firm goals and reaching for them, or missing opportunities, or worse, comparing yourself to others.
