Gandalf is a Maia, a lesser class of angelic beings who are the servants of the Valar, who govern Middle-Earth. The Valar are angels or archangels, and are themselves servants of Eru, Illuvatar, the One, or simply, God. Gandalf is only "cloaked" in a mortal body - when he dies on the peak of Zirik-Zigil after defeating the Balrog, his spirit was drawn (as all spirits are) to the Halls of Mandos in western Valinor. He arrived literally seconds after the Balrogs spirit did, and I can imagine the Valar were a bit surprised when a Balrog dropped into their laps! Mandos was probably in the process of expelling the thing thru the Doors of Night, out into the Void, where Morgoth, the fallen Valar, was exiled. Then Olorin (Gandalfs' true name) showed up, gave report, got new orders (and a promotion), and was sent back to finish his job. Now, knowing that, do you really think Harry is anywhere remotely near that level of divine power when he can barely perform a spell block?

Not a chance. Gandalf is an Istari, a lesser GOD, sent to middle earth. Harry Potter is a bratty teenage wizard.

Harry Potter is a bratty little wizard wanna-be and has no chance against Gandolf. Valinor is the home of the Valar angelic beings, which is where Gandolf belongs. Harry, on the other hand, is from the UK and would perish in the UK if he came across Gandolf's path.

No chance what-so-ever.

As one of the previous people stated Gandalf was some kind of 'lesser God' according to Tolkein's folklore anway. He either couldn't be killed, or could at least ressurect some-how (there was more about his powers in Silmarillion and Unfinished tales).

Gandalf would own him!
