Bon Jour, I am doing research on the differences between the film La Femme Nikita and the American remake Point of No Return. How did director Luc Besson feel specifically about the American remake and the American version. How did the French feel about the movie. Was Point of No Return shown in France at all. What is the current relationship between the French film industry and American film industry (if any at all). Please be specfic. Is there a history of exchange of ideas, harmony, discontent...do the French feel as if America imposes cultural imperialism. Do French youth feel differently than their elders. Does this cause conflict? The French side of the issue is never discussed and I would like to hear it. Please let me know where you are from and if information is personal or obtained from source. Au revoir (that is the only thing I know in French.. I hope I have not been offensive in any way).

i am french so first sorry for the mistakes.
i didn't see Point of no return. many french people don't love American movies just because it's American ( especially for the old people). but it's not really cause conflict between the generation.
I'm 23 and i used to see American movies in theater. it's not like my parents or my grandparents.
when i see a film, i don't care if it's an American or a french movie. the most important is the story. and sometimes i prefer to see an American movie because it 's more entertaining . some french producer, actor try to make some entertaining movies but American are the best.
but i really hate the American remake of french movies. we don't have the same humor, and the same culture.
for more info, question: meldescev@yahoo.fr, i would be glad to help you and find example, or discuss about it with my friends.
good luck

you ask a lot of good questions and the answers are as complex as the relationship between the us and france. this relationship has always been a prickly one and something as culturally revealing as film is a good lens in which to examine this relationship. suffice to say that the french love to hate the americans and our pop culture exports. this may be changing among the young but persists in the culture overall.
