That covers a lot of territory - weather, communications, scientific experiments, astronomical observation (Hubble Space Telescope), military defense (reconnaisance observation), military offense (they could be armed with weapons but so far none are supposed to be), global positioning systems, aerial maps, XM Radio and Dog Star radio (both satellite based).
