Yes, In case you didn't know, professional comic artist don't need to draw from reference (photos), they can if they want to, but they usually don't need too. It's because they have a deeper understanding of drawing. So make know these things before making your comic.

1. Make sure you have studied your fundamentals for sometime, with accuracy. The fundamentals include Proportions, Anatomy, Perspective, Gesture, Form & Construction, and Composition. If you look at american comics you will see every comic has realism in it compare to Japanese comics

2. Draw from life as much as you can, If your like everyone else, you would know that most people love to copy from photos and never draw from life. While their art looks flashy and nice, it isn't theirs and it's going to cripple them in the long run.

3. Learn to Draw from your Imagination! Drawing from your imagination is the core principal when it come to comics because this is what makes your comic unique and not like others, forget about popular manga and superheros, create something you enjoy that hasn't been done to death a thousand time and if you can't try to make it interesting and different. In terms of drawing, can you draw pages of your comics without having to look a photos for ideas or reference, If yes move on. If no study your fundamentals some more.

4. If Imagination is the core behind comics, the WRITING serves as the brain and heart of a comic. Without a interesting story the reader will lose interest and move on to something that does interest them. Read and study other comics and learn to prepare a comic script. I suggest heading over to Comic-Con Conventions for help from people already in the industry

That's all I got for now, hope you make a awesome comics!

Here's a list of things you have to make sure you are doing:

1. If your a beginner, make sure you have the BEST equipment. Yes, people say that beginners should just get the cheapo stuff, because there beginners, but beginners DESERVE the best because there beginners.

2. KNOW your characters. BE the characters. Would your character by christmas cards, would they own a Ford or Chev, would they like the color Red or Pink? Those answers should be obvious when your in tune with your character.

3. Draw for FUN. Not to be rich, or be famous. Make it fun, you'll enjoy it more. The rest will follow.
