You should have the option within the software which runs your scanner. When you scan the pages, tell your scanner that you want to scan it as a 'document' and not a picture.
What you're wanting to do is referred to as "OCR" or Optical Character Recognition.

What you opt for is an Optical character attractiveness professional gramme. many times referred to as OCR. It scans pages and tries to offer the letters right into a word format. There are dozens on the marketplace and that all of them preport to grant severe ninety% conversion, observing the time-honored of the website scanned. I even have study Iris and it serves my purpose nicely ( its an older version yet there are extra moderen variations now)

A hired transcriber or typist is far easier, faster, and less error-prone than bulk OCR. I designed and wrote a bulk OCR system (high-speed scanner + OCR + spellcheck + redaction) for drug trials, and it was interesting, but very expensive and needed editing anyway. People forget that transcribing or typing notes is getting editing, spell checking and formatting wrapped into it. It can be quite a deal.
Check with a local printer or publishing house, they can connect you to a hired typist (or check online) and you'll have clean copy in days.

You require a OCR (Optical Character Recognition) program. Check to see if your scanner software comes bundled with it.
Otherwise, search on the internet for other OCR softwares.

You need a "OCR" )"optical character recognition") program. Some scanners come with one but I've never found them particularly good. You'll probably have to buy a commercial program.

If you decide you need a program other than that which came with your scanner, ScanSoft Paperport 10.0 works pretty well.
I am assuming that when you say "personal writings" you mean typewritten material (not handwriting).
