In the near future (over the next 7-10) years, you can expect to see the current trends continuing. There is no evidence of a major technological breakthrough that will dramatically shift the way PCs will be built or used.

CPUs -- expect to see a focus on power reduction rather than speed increase. Reducing power consumption means systems will be cooler, and will have longer life in situations where AC power is unavailable.

RAM -- expect to see densities continue to increase, consistent with Moore's Law.

Non-Volatile Storage -- disks and solid-state memory. Expect to see hard disk storage capacities continue to increase into the 1TB (terrabyte = 1000GB) range within the next few years. Expect to see hybridization (i.e., combination) between standard hard drives and flash memory.

Displays -- expect to see standard "CRT" style monitors practically disappear, replaced with the now-standard LCD type monitors (which consume *far* less power). Also expect to see the emergence of OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) displays, especially for mobile devices. OLEDs have bright, high-contrast displays that are easily readable in direct sunlight, and consume even less power than LCD displays.

Form-factors: Expect to see the size of a full-powered PC continue to shrink. Already, there are full-up computer systems that are not much bigger than a package of gum. This trend will lead to "wearable" PC's -- i.e., PC's that are incorporated into clothing or glasses. Initially, these will have only limited functionality, but probably represent the next major new broad use for computers.

I don't know if this helps, but I can tell you a paragraph I once read in an OS book:

"If cars developped as rapidly as computers, a new ferrari would cost $28, thus it would come with a 1000 page manual showing how to open the door!!!"

Enjoy ;)

Nope. Ipad isn't even close to to even a low-cost laptop in recent times. if your conversing related to the touchscreen devoid of keyboard, then no lower back. Touchscreens would be used, yet keyboards won't purely go away. touch displays are no longer precisely "greater efficient", yet commonly purely greater relaxing to apply. in my opinion, touch displays are effective for small contraptions alongside with an iphone, yet basically because of the fact displays are too small to make a mouse sensible. I view laptops with touch displays greater of a toy than a extreme gadget. comparable is going for the hp slate. seem it up, it relatively is like the ipad different than its greater of an certainly laptop. no longer basically a jumbo ipod touch.

I think it would be kickass if we could install a computer in our, well, brains. It would be hooked up to our retnas so we would see what we were looking at. I just hope no idiots would try to lookat some video on youtube while driving.
