Yesterday me and my friends were playing Halo for eight and a half hours and this morning I woke up with soreness in the front of my head and the back right of my head, but it wasn't on the outside that it hurt. I haven't played halo with them in quite some time either.

This made me wonder whether the brain worked just like every other muscle in that it got sore when used vigorously like in a workout.

So, does the brain get sore when used in such a way that can be considered a workout just like other muscles in the body get sore after a workout?

Im very happy for you that you could play such a wonderful and well made game with your brothers in arms for such a long time.

But I must tell you that the brain is not a muscle and you can not hurt by using it like a muscle in a workout.

But you can hurt the brain like you can hurt anyother organ. Like drinking a lot hurts the liver.

However, playing violent video games generally starts the Flight or Fight response (which is why you have that adrenaline rush).

I guess this maybe related to the frontal lobe of your brain becasue that is the part that makes all the connections and is in charge of emotions.

I don't really know the effect of gameing on the brain, it would need an extensive amount of research that I hope they do soon.

Your head probably hurts because of all that time spent in front of a TV

Here is another idea about the back of your head.

The cerebellum (Latin: "little brain") is a region of the brain that plays an important role in the integration of sensory perception and motor output.

(this means that it figures out what your senses are teling you and then tells your body how to react, something that is happening frequently when you are playing the video game)

Many neural pathways link the cerebellum with the motor cortex—which sends information to the muscles causing them to move—and the spinocerebellar tract—which provides feedback on the position of the body in space (proprioception).

can you understand that? I says that the cerebellum send info to the muscles to make them move, like your thumbs.

and recieves info that tell you where the hell you are.

Maybe this part of the brain is hurting because the video game is giving you all this imput, all this info, but your body only reacts with your fingers. Maybe that's messing it up.

Thats the best thing I can think of.

If anyone else would like to discuss my theory, please email me at guapo666diablo@yahoo.com

I thinkj you can see it any way

No, The brain is not a muscle. It has no movement in it and there are no muscles in the brain. The brain cannot accually "feel" pain as it has no sensory organs.

Think about brain surgery. You can cut someone's head open and poke things on their brain and they will not feel a thing

What your soreness came from was probably a multitude of things. 1. the muscles around your eyes probably got pretty wore down from all that video game playing. All that focusing can really make those focusing muscles tired and the pain was likely soreness raidating out from there

2. Did you drink alot of mtn dew?... hehe alot of halo players do and that can give you a "hangover" from all the caffine.

3. Plus you were probably tired and all that fatigue also got to your muscles in your face which you use TONS in a day of activity .

The brain can get tired...but it cannot get sore. If it did get sore, we would have a lot of sore days.

The soreness you were feeling probably had something to do with looking at the TV screen for so long, and it is the muscles in your eyes rather than your brain

I feel like this, but I exercise every weekday. My muscles are often still sore from a day or two previous. If you only do this one day a week, this could be something odd. Maybe you should ask a doctor?

The brain is not a muscle, so you can't get it tired. It does use a quarter of your nutrients, so 8 hours is a long time to not eat. Your real problem is probably eyestrain though. That's a long time to focus on one spot.

The brain is not a muscle. You probably had either eye or neck muscle strain.

Um, no. The brain is not a muscle. It is a bundle of nerves. Did you get enough sleep?

First of all, brain tissue isn't muscle tissue. You probably deprived it of enough oxygen yesterday from playing video games all day to give yourself a headache.
