I plan to update my workstation. I have four "RAM" slots on my motherboard. 2 of which have been occupied by a pair of 64MB PC800 RDRAM. Should I just use a stick of 512MB in the 3rd slot and leave the 4th slot empty or should I insert a blank RDRAM (aka CRIMM) to fill the 4th slot? Im not sure which combination works but I heard that RDRAM should be used in pairs. Any advise would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Read your mobo manual! There are almost as many memory dos and donts as there are motherboards! If you dont have the manual, go to the pc manufacturers website and download it.

Well you were right. They need to be in pairs. Not only pair but all four should be like. RDram is also the most expensive RAM on the market. It will run almost double that of DDR and DDR2 RAM. If you are running NT4 or W2k 56Mb of RAM should be fine, especially in a not gaming or video editing environment .

I believe you have to use them in pairs, CRIMMs are only for pairs of slots that are empty. I think the best thing would be to just get rid of the two 64s and replace with a pair of 256's or 512's if you can afford to sell a kidney to afford them.

In my computer with RDRam you have to buy the RAM in Pairs.

THis would work.

2x256 for 1 pair and 2x512 mb on the other.

But this won't.

2x256 1 pair. 1x512 plus a crim. Everything needs to be even.

definite they are going to artwork mutually, however the 40ns pair will "below-clock" itself to artwork on the comparable spped because of the fact the 45ns pair. whether that is this form of small difference which you will in no way observe.
