So I guess the n word disproves the old 'sticks and stones will break my bones . . . ' theory. If the word is 'banned' that means no one, including non-whites, can use it. But when you ban one word, what is next, a song, a poem, a book, a movie, a painting? If the n word has that much power, then something is really wrong with our society. It is a name, a label, slang - shouldn't we be taking offense at important things, like starting and continuing a war that is and was wrong? Ruining the environment? Poor education in our schools? I mean, if 1/2 the energy that went towards the n word was used in any of the other issues, they wouldn't be issues anymore. Getting riled up over a word here, is like the muslims getting pissed off over a cartoon - people, grow up and spend your worry time on important things.

If you are going to Ban certain words get ready to Ban many more. Funny no one ever thinks of banning the word Rose. There is nothing wrong with any word, except the meaning we give them through life experiences

My gut says no - b/c whenever I look at any connection between "ban" and "speech" I know it is the wrong answer. But, this is starting to come to a head. We're all acting too wierd about this and it is bothering and confusing me. I really don't know what to do about the N-word other than not use it myself. But I feel bad that others can use it with abandon while I am forced to bite my toungue. I am happy to do my part on one hand, but the current situation doesn't "feel right" anymore than banning the word does. Does that make sense - in what I hope is a positive way to disclose honest feelings?

I don't know, I think that this word is only pointed at certain people of that race, there are many people out there that are hard working individuals, I have personally worked with them and they are to me just another person.
The N word people on the other hand do obnoxious things basically to get attention drawn to them, and hence they are refereed to with the N word, so baning the word is the same as banning all foul language, it just won't happen.

Considering the fact the 90% of the time it is used by bros themselves,I don't think it is as relevant anymore as it used to be one generation ago..But it just depends on the context in which it's used. When a white guy uses it,it's racist, when a black guy uses it,it's street smart.Double standard.I don't think it should be banned..all that pc crap is for the birds, even though i think the way Michael Richard was using it was totally blatant racism and wrong.
It's just like homos calling themselves "queers" now day..Queer used to be a bad insult and now it is accepted within the gay community to describe themselves.

It's only a word (one designed for hate and anger, but just a word). Banning it ANYWHERE just gives it more power. A better idea is just to stop using it.

Comedy shouldn't be always about ethnic slurs and sex jokes. There should be some kind of comedy where a conservative type of person could feel at least comfortable.

If the word is so offensive then it shouldn't be used by anyone, anywhere and anytime. For some people to use the word then be offended if someone else uses it seems to be a double standard. The word is what it is regardless of who uses it.

Yes it should, it is very offensive to all people.
I am white but to hear someone call a african-american the n-word. That just sets me off, how could someone do that. They are not slaves and segregation is not around anymore, so why should they be discrimminated?
It is just plan WRONG
