Why don't you just replace the lock? Drill the lock out (so the tumblers come loose. Put a screwdriver in and give it a turn. The drawer cabinet should open. Then install a replacement lock. They're not expensive and generally no more work than doing something like you're suggesting.

Well if the cabinet has a hole where the lock goes on I suggest you should just buy a combination lock instead. You can't go wrong with that one. Just to make sure you can buy the one that has the number that with 0-0-0-0 on it so that you can set it to what every number you can remember. Like B-day, house number, pin number any number you want. I hope that can work out for you.

you have 2 techniques. turn the cabinet the different way up. some cabinets have locks that count on gravity to artwork. or you could touch the producer and have a clean key sent for a small fee. Hon expenditures $11. I duct tape a spare key to the back of my cabinet now.

You could get a padlock and hinge. Both are cheap. Or you could have a locksmith change out the tumblers and install new ones with a new key.

A hasp and a combination lock would work. Then you wouldn't have to worry about losing your key...just your combination.
