Right the best way to make your computer faster! Go on to Add/Remove Programs and Uninstall and Delete what you dont use to free space on the disc. Then go onto the control panel and run the disc clean up. Make sure yopu havent got programs like lime wire witch will slow your computer right down. when ypu have got as much space as you can on your hard drive check if you need more RAM for your computer. 512mb Ram Would be a suitible amount for a everyday family computer but if you use it for work or running loads of spread sheets and internet pages Looking into 1GB or 2GB wouldent be a bad idea.
I hope this has helped you and if you have any more Questions/Problems feel free to email me Jaspeyproductions@hotmail.co.uk

The biggest problem with slow computers is Norton. It gets into everything and slows it down to a crawl. A smaller, simpler Macafee based program will do the job without turning your computer into a snail. Turning off System Restore can help quite a bit. It's almost never useful for anything and can take up huge amounts of space and resources.
And delete everything from add/remove that you don't use.
The stuff in start/programs/startup can clog things up too. You can drag the icons out of there, and put them back if it turns out you needed them.
Also click on start/run and type msconfig, and hit enter. Uncheck stuff in the startup tab. XP will run with all of those things unchecked, and you can recheck them if something needed it.

There is a lot of clean up you can do, but you want to be sure you know what your taking off.

Believe it or not, cleaning off old documents and pictures can at times free up quite a bit of space.

In your control panels, go to add and remove programs, and delete anything that you KNOW you do not use. Often old programs that you havent used in a while can be hiding and you didnt even realize it. If a program states that is used rarely, I would open it and see what it is before you delete it.

Make sure you run a good spyware clean up on your computer. Personally I would go with Ad-Aware.

If you have XP, click on "My Computer", right click on your C drive, and click on properties. Click your tools tab at the top, and set your error-checking, checking both boxes, then click start. (This scan will not start till you restart your computer) Still in your properties, click back on general, and do a disk clean up. Once the disk clean up is completed, click back on tools and do a defrag. After the defrag is complete, then restart your computer and allow the error-checking to run.

After all of this, depending on how many things you removed, you should be in a little better shape. If you feel confident with your computer ability, you can also reset which programs you keep running in the back ground and at start up, this can make a great deal of difference in speed.

Good luck

Download this free program called CCleaner, it's really good at cleaning out the clutter safely. Another freebie that will tune up your computer I've had great luck is Advanced Windows Care. It's a do it all program, just click and let it do it's magic. Best of luck.

Run your computer through the test at http://www.pcpitstop.com/. It will tell you what programs are not neccessary. It will give you tips on how to increase speed as well.

Another tool is Tcp Optimizer. It will make changes automatically and is almost fool proof.

real simple. just go to My computer. Riht click on Local Disk C.
then go to properties>> then disk cleanup. it may take a while but you should see a list of everything that you can safely delete. check all the things that you want to delete, then click ok. it should work.
