If you're a student they do good educational discounts. Depends what software you're using for your work. Many graphic design/animation etc programs are available for both mac and windows, so the grphic design aspect won't really affect your choice. OSX is unquestionably better for general day-to-day tasks such as browsing the web: no popup windows, no spyware, no worms etc etc. I use both, but Windows and the internet are a bad combination.
The iMacs are all-in-one computers : in fact if you get a bluetooth keyboard and mouse there's only one cable to plug in and that's the mains lead. If you have loads of money and want a really powerful computer then the MacPros are very fast, but they require a monitor as well.
Finally, I would wait till mid January - there may well be updates to the software and hardware. Check the MacRumours buyers' guide on the site below

Go with Mac every time! Never had a crash, or a virus in 20 years. And why would you want half your memory wasted on making your computer run windows so it'll look like a Mac. I would go with the best price, and with the free printer, if you need one, that sounds like Best Buy. Just make sure they offer the same support you can get from the Apple store. Don't forget to try to go to the more expensive store and tell them - Hey, the other guy is willing to do this. Can you beat it? In this economy, they would rather give you a discount than lose a sale.

I just switched from pc to mac about 2 month ago i got a imac G3 233Mhz with 32Mb ram running os 9.2 but have upgraded to osx 10.3, 10Gb hard drive and 256Mb ram. They are cheap and easy to upgrade despite what others say and i love my imac to bits!!!! Loads better than a constantly getting viruses and crashing and seizing up like pcs!!!. My imac has never yet crashed or got a virus. I recommend IMACS!!!

All depends if you can afford the upgrades or not as I here that the upgrades are not cheap, and if you are on a tight budget then I would go for a PC everytime, saying that if you are studying and using one at collage then buy a mac, not sure which one but one that you can afford. also if you are using a mac and it's in window's mode then it is just as likely to get a virus as a Microsoft windows computer so be careful and always use up to date anti-virus software with your new mac. good luck

Macs are great machines, pcs are built down to a price but in reality it comes down to what software you want to use.
No matter what you buy, should cost of software upgrades become a problem (this is an issue for both windows and mac users) you can always stick linux on it for nothing.

as a IT professional you want to stay in the line of Windows PC's but i understand that MAC's are really effective in the graphic design and animation fields.
I would stay PC for support and availability but mac's are pretty hot right now
