Gilbert Arenas.
I bring him up, because not only is he a good basketball player (8th in scoring and 16th in assists in the entire league so far this year), but he's worked hard to get to where he is. In that adversity, he's never lost sight of the fact that all along his journey, people felt he wouldn't accomplish anything. When he went to college at Arizona, there were people who said he'd play 0 minutes. That's part of why his number is 0 - to remind himself. He has always worked harder to make sure he accomplishes his goals.
Unlike a lot of players who get in all sorts of trouble, Arenas is someone who really gives back to his community. Yes, all players are required to do some community service, but the efforts Arenas puts in are above and beyond what are expected from it. The key is - he doesn't do it because he has to, he does it because he wants to and it's the right thing to do.
On one last basketball note, I love that he makes the people around him better. He is an unselfish player who really supports his teammates. Look at his average of assists - pretty impressive.
Take a look at the article and video clips I've linked to below. They definitely show why he is a good role model.
This is a wonderful, long article on him, where he came from, his determination, and how he is very different than a lot of other basketball players:

This is a neat website that talks about his childhood and a specific mentor he had:

I'd say Derek Fisher.
He's head of the Player's Association, has three rings and is simply a great guy.
I remember when the Lakers beat the Sixers back in '00, Derek making a point to go shake hands with each of the Sixers an wish them well.

I would have to say Carmelo Anthony because he is the leading scorer this season and those are the players the kids want to grow up to be like. He also has not been arrested like some of the other stars and he listens to his coach. Lastly, he focuses on basketball and not on being a rapper or an actor like the players such as Allen Iverson or Shaquille O'neal

andrei kirilenko ^_^ he's a we'll rounded player, he shows that putting numbers in all positive stats (points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks) are important not just scoring..most of us look up only on those who scores the most
