I depends on your definition of smart.
There are 'book smart' people who know the facts and various other things- those people accel in certain areas of work [such as doctors, lawyers, and what not]
But then there are 'street smart' people who know how to do things and when to do them and what people want. Many people think that street smart people do have more potential of making money. They are much better at starting their own business and making people enjoy things [like advertising].

It doesn't mean they have to just make it, they are just smart enough to know how to hide it well or put it in things that make more money. And once you have money it is easier to make more. But yes you have to have some kind of brains to get the money going unless you are like Paris Hilton and born into it but have the brain the size of her Tinkerbell dog!

No, there are people in Mensa who are on welfare, and I know some pretty unimpressive people with lots of money.
I think being smart can sometimes get in the way of making money. Look at college professors, all that work getting degrees and they make diddly.

NO! Look at Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton.
Not the brightest crayons in the box. But they're loaded.

I'm not sure. One thing I do know, is that I've met many stupid people who make lots of money.
