All I need is just what he was trying to get at in the poem. What he was trying to tell us.

What Poe said in that poem is exactly what he said. Stop
looking for hidden meanings in things, they aren't there. No
matter what your English teacher says.

A bell was left at the gravesite with a cord going into the burial area. If a person was buried alive they could ring this bell and be dug up before the suffocated. Thus the saying saved by the bell. This was a rampant fear in Victorian times of premature burial.
