As long as you make it yourself, with bright clear graphics, you will catch people's attention.
(1) Can you capture a picture of the person's face, then draw around it like crayon to make a stick figure in front of a birthday cake. If it says HAPPY BIRTHDAY in big colorful crayon letters, that will catch people's attention. Or JOIN THE FUN.
(2) I once made a mini newspaper, folded in thirds, with the headline showing at the top "Alex Smith turns XX. Friends gather to celebrate" The reason is we needed to provide a map to the clubhouse, so we typeset that, pasted and photocopied.
Go to stationery/greeting card section of your local drugstore, department or dollar store, to look at invitations and cards to get ideas and to borrow the format
Where:
When: etc.
