The degree of Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) is a research-oriented doctorate. The DBA (like the Ph.D.) often requires significant coursework beyond the masters level. However, depending on the scholastic program and the level of preparation at the bachelors and masters level, coursework is not always mandatory. The DBA (like the Ph.D.) normally requires a significant thesis or final comprehensive project including a formal defense and approval by an officially sanctioned and qualified doctoral review committee. The degree is conferred when all coursework, testing, and written research is completed satisfactorily and when it is reviewed and approved by the committee.

The DBA degree may have a specialization such as management science, technology management, organizational behavior, or finance. Many business schools offer both DBA and Ph.D. programs in various fields. Curricula may be offered on a full-time or part-time basis.

The DBA is sometimes virtually identical to the Ph.D. However, the degree curriculum tends to focus on contemporary and practical business issues as opposed to theoretical research. European DBAs are often similar to American Ph.Ds. The U.S. Department of Education and the National Science Foundation recognize numerous reserach-oriented doctoral degrees such as the D.B.A. as "equivalent" to the Ph.D. and do not discriminate between them

The difference between DBA and MBA can be distinguished as follows.

This is the difference between a 'Masters' level qualification and a 'Doctoral' level qualification. At Masters level the knowledge needed is already established, the examiners are assessing a students ability to absorb this knowledge. For example on an MBA course the knowledge needed to be covered in finance, marketing and HR is already well defined, and the students work can be compared in terms of their ability to understand and apply this existing knowledge. In the case of a Doctorate the student must demonstrate that he or she has developed a contribution to knowledge, in other words that they have created new knowledge. We do not teach management subjects on the Executive Doctorate as our students already hold an MBA (or equivalent) and also have a significant level of managerial experience so they already know a lot about management - the Executive Doctorate focuses on building the skills needed to create new knowledge about management.

DBA STANDS FOR --> DataBase Administrator
The duties of a DBA are to keep track of the databased computerized in the system of the company ....... and when any authorised or a higher level manager asks for a reports........ he need to develope that through computer..............

for eg .... if a BOSS of the company asks that he wants list of employess who is being paid more then 15000 ..... then the DBA with help of computer language (ORACLE or PL/SQL or SAP) writes queries on comp. and the output is generated ...............
This is the work of a DBA.
