a friend refered to someone as a 'maffakin' in a txt msg 2day, and I don't quiteknow what she meant.

Just a guess...it could mean mother f***in. Like a cute way of disguising it I suppose. That's just what it sounds like when you say it. Kind of like fuct or phuckit or taking a fucitol pill.

Maffakin is a border town, city in Republic of South Africa. on the border of Bostswana. big battle were fought there during the Boer War. 1899-1902

Probably refering to the seige and releif of Maffeking in South Africa in the Boer war. 1900.

So maybe it means " a terrible time", or releif from such an event ?
