What were the religious beliefs of both groups? Which group tried to convert the other one to their religion?

Also how can you describe the Aztecs life?

The Spanish religion in which you were referring to is Catholicism. The Aztecs practiced their own polytheistic faith. As in pretty much all cases, travelers from the old world always had a few missionaries in tow to try to convert the masses to Christianity. I don't see any good reason why the Aztecs would want to convert anyone. I'm pretty sure they had no concept of evangelizing.

As for their lifestyle, they probably lived very comfortably. The Aztecs were one of the most advanced cultures in the ancient world.

Aside from the ritual sacrifice of course, but amongst the aztec people, this was not necessarily a bad thing.

The Spanish tried to convert the Aztecs, who in turn had there own. The Aztecs one, which is pretty funny, described that their main god, Quezticoatl, would come from the sea as a white man (which turned out to be the Spanish). They openly accepted him, but kept their own religion. The Spanish didn't like that and killed all the Aztecs. Oh, and the Spanish were Catholics.

The Aztecs life was one of farming and trading. They did lots of things in their metropolis (whose name escapes me) and fought with other Native American groups all the time.

The Spaniards did not just try to convert the Aztecs - they used brutal force to succeed. Aztec life was difficult, with much human sacrifice. Although they were good farmers their diet may have been protein poor. Their achievements in city building was awesome, but their religion was savage and bloody.

The purpose of the Spanish Conquistadors was twofold. First and foremost, they were after gold. Secondly, they wanted to convert all those they saw as 'heathen', wwhich included the Aztecs, to the Roman Catholic faith. The Aztecs didn't stand a chance.
