I want to buy a prepaid cell phone. I prefer virgin mobile. Do I need any contacts or anything like that from the company?I know that I can buy the set individually but how do i get my phone number and also how do I get the phone activated? Do i need to pay anything beside the set fee and prepaid card?

There are no contracts with any prepaid phone. When you buy the set, there are instructions on how to activate it in the box. You can do it over the phone or on their website. They will give you a list of a couple of phone numbers you can choose from. You don't need to pay anything else, just make sure you get another card before the one you have expires so your minutes add onto each other.

Just follow the instructions in the book, it very easy, and WRITE down any passwords you use (Especially your Lock Code), I just wrote mine in the manual by each thing I did, I think there two. One for using the phone and one if you setup an on-line account. You not need the on-line account, you can just buy a Top Up card. I used the on-line so I can just Top-Up with a push of a button and it keep a record of what you do, calls, text messages, etc.
I come out much cheaper with Virgin Mobile, or, any pre-paid service as I not talk much on the cell. Text Messages mostly and a quick call to see if someone home, I can talk when I get there. IF, you going to talk a lot you may want to consider a Regular Cell. Just look at how much you using the phone.
