Green field is a term meant to describe a grass-root project.
A project started from scratch where are no restraints to begin with or to design and carryout the work is a greenfield project.
(For example a brown field project is where you are modifying an existing project to meet some new requirements like expansion of capacity, addition of facilities, some equipment etc).
In a greenfield project you can optimize very well on space, power, utilities and usually a barren area to start with
Sometimes if you have an existing plant which you demolish and built a new plant - although this may look like a Green field project it may not truly be one
