i`ve fixed holes by using cardboard and double back tape.place tape on the cardboard ,use a screw in the center of cardboard to pull it tight on the inside of the hole then remove the screw.now use sheetrock patching compound to fill the hole.put it on in thin coats with a wide putty knife let each coat dry before adding the next.do not press hard or the cardboard will come loose.after you fill the hole spread out a couple of thin layers wider than the hole.after it drys sand with 80 grit paper till it looks and feels level.now a fine grit paper to smooth out the sand scratches left by the 80 grit.now just paint the spot and you are finished.

Best way is to cut the hole out to make it a regular shape, round is ok but square is easier. Get a piece of dry wall and cut to the same shape. Take a wood board (1 by 2) and cut 4 inches longer the the cut drywall. put the board in the hole so that 2 inches are above and below the hole. Screw through the wall into the wood above and below the hole. It should be secure now. Now take the cut piece of drywall and fit it into the hole and screw through it into the wood. Take some joint compound and a putty knife (available at you local hardware store) and fill in the edges of the hole and the screw holes. Allow to dry and sand smooth. Re-apply joint compound as needed.

If that's more than you want to do, get some superglue and cardboard. Superglue the cardboard to the inside of the wall. You'll need to cut the cardboard to get it in right. Once it's dry and stays in place take something and fill in the hole below the surface of the wall. Thick cardboard glued to the backer will do. Now you will need to use the joint compound to gently fill the rest of the hole. It will take several thin coats to avoid cracking.

You'll need to paint over the patch when you finish.

Cut a piece of sheetrock 4"x 4", trim 1" around leaving only the front paper, slip it in and spackle. Comprende? Go to the hardware and ask for minute fix and a putty knife. Ask them how to use it.
