"Give a person enough rope and they'll hang themselves". A saying my Mom says my grandmother used re deceitful people. Is that what it's about? Does it mean they eventually will get caught and regret it? Seems like a funny saying. Any ideas re it's origin? I asked this quest. late last night when all the 'jokesters' were on. I 'll try again.

I guess this could also apply to all bad deeds - lying, cheating, meanness, etc.

It relates to the fact that if you tell a lie and then have to continue lying to keep up the pretense then sooner or later the whole story will unfold and the truth will come out. Always worth remembering.
