Dodge Truck 1994 Two years ago i thought that the transmission was out well-It was not drove for 7 months -i drove it two more years. It started slowing down and stopped when i was almost home. A nice policeman came by and told me to put it in d1(automatic) and i make it home but then the other day i started it up and when it would not brfore it went backwards and forward It still makes a terriable noise but now i am wondering if it is something besides the transmission. Any ideas from a knowledgable person would be helpful.

It may be the bolts holding the torque converter to the flex plate have come out.

What that would do is make an awfull clanking noise and grumbling sound at idle.
If you put it in gear, the sound would lessen, but still be there.
Then, if you tried to drive it, as soon as you gave it gas, it would kind of try to move and make a lot of clacking noise realy fast.

Either way, transmission or flex plate, the tranny will have to come out.

Not sure but, it sounds like your tranny leaked out oil and froze.
Its toast but maybe when you can tow to mechanic to check it.
