I have heard that some educators do not like Dr. Seuss books.
If you like them, which ones do you recommend?

You do not have to be a teacher to answer this. I'd like to know what your favorite Dr. Seuss book(s) is(are).

1. Green Eggs and Ham 2. I have 3 kids. They've all liked Horton Hears a Who and also Green Eggs and Ham especially when I would make green eggs and ham for dinner (scrambled eggs with green food dye) 3. I'd like the Lorax to visit. 4. The Grinch if he was still grinchy. 5. Are there actually people who don't like Dr. Seuss?

I read Dr. Seuss all the time as a child. Heck, I work at a library and I read Dr. Seuss NOW. (I still refuse to call my extra stretchy "Magic scarf" anything but a Thneed...) I loved all the books, but I especially suggest Green Eggs and Ham, Yertle the Turtle, The Lorax, The Foot Book, and either of the Cat in the Hat books. Green Eggs and Ham teaches kids to always try new things. Yertle the Turtle teaches that everyone can make a difference (And was based off of a drawing with turtles stacked up in the symbol of "V for victory" that was used during World War 2). The Lorax teaches to speak out about what you are passionate about, and even in the darkest times you can make a difference. The Foot Book is just plain FUN. The Cat in the Hat was originally written as a school book, but apparently it was a little to lively to be used. Teachers continued using Dick Jane and Spot. Obviously the Cat in the Hat Comes Back is the sequel to the first Cat in the hat book, and I actually prefer it to the first one. I have heard that Oh, the Places You'll go is a wonderful story, but I honestly don't think I have ever read that one all the way through. My childhood wasn't very traditional... Lol.
No offense, Big_J, but Dr. Seuss WASN'T a a real Doctor. His name was Theodore (Ted) Geisel. The name Dr. Seuss originated when he published some scientific satire cartoons in a newspaper. By now he was using his mother's maiden name. The comics were Science By Seuss, so he signed them "Dr. Seuss".
I nothing under the name "Dr. Seuss" strikes your fancy, try finding some stories published under the name Ted or Theodore Lesieg. When "Dr. Suess" (Aka Ted Geisel) was busted for cocktailing in college, his job as editior of the school newspaper was taken away, and he was no longer allowed to submit anything. Still, he continued to send in comics under the names of Theodore Lesieg, or Theodore Seuss. Lesieg was his name spelled backwards, and Seuss was his mother's maiden name. He continued to have books published under both names.

I also suggest you try to find the movie In Search of Dr. Seuss. It has a LOT about Ted Geisel's life, and many off is stories brought to life in animated movies or songs. The whole movie is very clever and fun to watch, even once you are older. The movie is rather hard to find, but WELL worth it.

All of Dr. Seuss's books had secret political messages. It's basically propaganda for kids. But I do enjoy Yertle The Turtle and Other Stories.

We love Dr. Suess. Even tho my kids are older, we will read The Cat in the Hat occasionally. Also, The Butter Battle Book is a lesson in pacifism. Marvin K. Mooney Will You Please Go Now is fun to read. One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish is fun too. Fox in Sox is a good book for alliteration and annunciation. Dr. Suess's ABC's teaches the alphabet. Wacky Wednesday by Theodore Geisel is a look and find. btw.....what do educators know? Let's stick a bunch of kids in a room and go too fast or too slow cuz all kids learn at the same rate.

I read all the Seuss books to my kids and we all enjoyed them and no harm has come to my youngsters. Difficult to choose a favourite as each one was great - perhaps Green Eggs and Ham.

Dr. Seuss is wonderful for children. His books not only help to teach children how to read but they can also learn morals from them, like "The Lorax" and "Horton Hatches the Egg."

I'm a parent. My kids absolutely loved Dr. Seuss (I recommend all of them) when they were little. They are now both college students majoring in languages, one's on the dean's list, the other is a natural with words in any language. I think those books, plus Sesame Street, did wonders getting my kids interested in education. By the way, one is also majoring in education..future teacher. How cool is that?

I am a teacher and I have found that many of my students LOVE these books, most notably Fox In Socks. Other favorites include The Grinch Stole Christmas and Horton Hatches The Egg.
