This can be a tricky question because Great Britain is an island east of Ireland which is made up of
3 countries
England
Wales
Scotland
However the term Great Britain has been used unofficially to refer to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, which makes this unofficial title technically incorrect. This is because the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland comprises 4 countries and over 100 separate islands and island groups. These 4 countries are
England
Scotland
Wales
Republic of Northern Ireland
So to answer your question correctly Great Britain is an island comprising the 3 countries England, Scotland and Wales, however the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland comprises the above 3 plus the Republic of Northern Ireland.

Great Britain is an island lying off the northwestern coast of mainland Europe and to the east of Ireland, comprising the main territory of the United Kingdom. Great Britain is also used as a geopolitical term describing the combination of England, Scotland, and Wales, which together comprise the entire island and some outlying islands. In everyday speech and non-official writing in all English-speaking and most other countries, "Great Britain", and simply "Britain",
Geography
With an area of 80,800 square miles (209,000 km²) the island of Great Britain is the largest of the British Isles. [1] It is the largest island in Europe, and eighth largest in the world. [1] It is the third most populous island after Java and Honshū. [2]
Great Britain stretches over approximately ten degrees of latitude on its longer, north-south axis. Geographically, the island is marked by low, rolling countryside in the east and south, while hills and mountains predominate in the western and northern regions. Before the end of the last ice age, Great Britain was a peninsula of Europe; the rising sea levels caused by glacial melting at the end of the ice age caused the formation of the English Channel, the body of water which now separates Great Britain from continental Europe at a minimum distance of 21 miles (34 km).
The climate of Great Britain is milder than that of other regions of the Northern Hemisphere at the same latitude, because the warm waters of the Gulf Stream pass by the British Isles and exert a moderating influence on the weather. Cool, but not cold, temperatures, clouds more often than sun, and abundant rain are the rule in most years.

Three, though these countries are not technically independent countries or even autonomus regions, simply land designations: England, Scotland, and Wales. Some of my esteemed colleagues seem to be confusing Great Britain with the United Kingdom, formally known as the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Since Northern Ireland is geographically NOT part of the island known as Great Britain, it is not part of Great Britain per se.

The 4 countries that make up the United Kingdom of Great Britain are England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
Prior to 13th and 11th centuries these countries with the exception of Scotland were of several independant kingdoms each with their own ruler. For example present day England was 7 different countries: Northumbria, Mercia, East Anglia, Essex, Kent, Sussex, and Wessex.
