I believe Christmas is not about GETTING gifts, but rather about GIVING gifts.
I am not a Christian, but I celebrate Christmas as a holiday to show appreciation to those I love.
And also, my family frowns on purchased gifts. Ever since we were children we were encouraged to create our gifts rather than buy them.

The reason we lost of true meaning of Christ's mass is because of people that are more concerned with making profit as opposed to making peace.
CHRISTmas is the time we choose to celebrate of saviours birth. The history of this date is another story but we have lost the true meaning and we can not let commercial or commercialism ruin the true meaning for you.
God bless us everyone and keep the Christmas in your heart everyday.

somehow.. but commercials are just there to give suggestions of what you might want to give for christmas. you dont really need to follow or do what they're trying to depict in the picture.. u can just ignore the extravagant and lavish gifts they're selling. the most important thing is that you know that whatever it is you're giving for christmas, you gave it with a lot of love and thought.. after all, that's what matters most right?

Yes, it is. Since most people now who are Christians can't be necessarily considered devout Christians, most people celebrate it by giving each other gifts and eating and having fun. Also, since the U.S. is such a melting pot of cultures, non-Christians also celebrate it as more of a material holiday. It IS a national holiday, unlike other religion winter holidays.

I do think that when most people think of Christmas, their first thought is PRESENTS!!! It's sad and we are trying to nip that in the butt with our 4 yr old by teaching her that Yeah, you do get presents, but it's not the getting that makes it Christmas it's the goodwill and the giving spirit.
We also watch a lot of old Christmas movies as the new ones tend to focus on presents and MORE presents...Not the spirit we want her to focus on!

Definitely. I think Christmas has lost it's true religious meaning to the consumerism of the masses. It's a shame that "decent thinking westerners" think they are devout Christians if they attend church at Christmas and Easter.

For me Christmas has stayed the same. Christmas' main theme isn't to buy presents to our beloved ones, it is to fill our hearts with love and care and love the people we have around us. We must always show care for all humans, because we're all living under the same sky.
