Why Not word process a Gift certificate!(Promising to get her something Specific that you know she'd like),or Maybe Promising to take her out to Dinner?
The Simple things are more appreciated !

Just be honest : ) Tell her, with the holidays up and coming, money is a bit tight right now, but you still wanted her to know that you are thinking of her on her birthday and at least wanted to buy her a card. In the card, just tell her how much her friendship means to you, etc. and that you hope she has a good birthday. We all can't afford presents for everyone's bday all the time : ) Good luck and don't worry about it...she's your friend and she'll love you either way, gift or not. You thought about her and wanted to at least write your sentiments down on a card. Friends are really understanding and love you no matter what : )

If she's a true friend she will happily accept the card and will compleately understand that she will have to wait a few days for a presant. Just tell her the truth.
Good Luck x

You can always let her know that you have something that will be arriving shortly however you don't have the item at the present moment and Wish Her a Happy Birthday
She obviously wants to see you if she is asking you to come to see her. Go for it. Maybe you can let her know you have a surprise that is fothcoming.

Gifts are great but if you can't afford one right NOW, that's ok. If she's is not shallow she will appreciate the card you got her. It sounds cliche but it's the thought that counts, at least you remebered her birthday! :)

Just be honest - say you're a bit short on money (give her a card - or a handmade card) but that you'll get her something on Monday. And wish her a happy birthday - she'll just be glad to see you.

Just tell her what you told us, she'll understand, a late present is better than none at all...
