What can be done for cracks in the ceiling due to foundation settling?

Make sure that the settling is normal and not a marker for something more serious first. Patching up a crack is easy and I can provide as many answers and anyone else that answers - but want to caution you to first check the reasons for the crack out and see if they can be stopped. Else patching one location is not going to help. A new one may develop as the underlying problem has not been fixed.

As for patching the area - is the ceiling area have a finish like orange peel or is it some other texture ? If it is textured - you need to also texture once you patch. Your local hardware store can help with the appropriate patch mixture to fill the crack... I have had success in widening the crack or scraping a bit deeper around the crack edges. Fill with the appropriate patch like Spackle and level with a trowel or some flat instrument. Some of these patches do shrink when dry - so you may need to go on top of it with some more Spackle once dry and smooth with the trowel once again. Once all dry - you can Sand the area so that its flush with the surrounding area. At this point you can try and apply texture on top matching the surrounding area. When that dries - paint to match the rest of the ceiling.

it feels like the recent repaired beginning place has led to some settling returned. I stay in a house that's 2 many years previous and does the same element each 4-5 years interior the same place on the drywall. i might caulk then paint the cracks and not subject approximately it in the experience that your beginning place is in super condition. some issues you basically cat restoration with out making it an entire finished renovation getting too costly.

It depends on what was used on the ceiling,was It plaster or a newer house etc,There are many newer thypes of drop ceilings and I would go with one of those for an old house so you dont have to worry about the ceiling(but the walls will be another question,lol)

Sounds like the cracks are minor, which resembles minor earthquake damage in California. Small cracks are repaired in the process of painting. Use a basic caulking.

Is your house done settling? If you cover it today, will it be cracked again in a month?

Fix the cause, before you fix the effect.

If they are small cracks you can use caulking to fill them. Go to your local hardware store and ask the sales person to show you where to find caulking and how to use it best. Also, if your walls are painted a color other than white you may need to color match so you can paint over the caulking.

This happens most of the time in newer construction. I would wait at least a year before having it fixed. Any painter or drywall taper will be able to fix this problem.
