I've never heard of earthquakes being in Mephis Tennessee.

There are earthquakes every where. You just don't notice most of them as they are of a magnitude of 1 or 2. Go to the U.S. geological site and pull up a map of your area and it will show you all of the Earthquakes that occur each day and where. Living ijn Calif., I don't notice anything below a 4. But even here in Northern Calif we average about 2 to 6 magnitude 1 and 2s a day. I look at the map for Calif. and Nevade several times a day to see where the latest ones occurred and there are usually at least 300 on it as it shows them for the past week.

Yes, there is a fault zone called the New Madrid Siesmic Zone in the area it can create quite large quakes but they aren't as frequent as they are on the west coast. You can see it at the USGS site or on Wikipedia etc.

i`m in Ohio and all the states around the Appalachian Mt's have small quakes every few years.. the plate that causes them is called the new Madrid fault.
