I heard that the first couple of weeks when a baby is born that their smile is mainly just gas. is this true?

yes its true, when babies are born, they have to gain control of their nerves, which could take up to 2 years.

Yea, I think that's true. My son smiled a lot when he was that little but it was mostly in his sleep and then well, he'd have gas a short while later. Perhaps it was just coincidence but that's what it lead me to believe.

I don't believe so...I knew the difference between the gas smile and a REAL smile...my babies SMILED!!! YEP!! Whenever they heard my voice!!!

I've heard that as well. Know one can really tell. So believe aht you want. I like to believe they are really smiling.

yeah because they don't realize they can smile and stuff and they can't see that well unless it is a bright color so there really is no reason for them to smile.

I hear it is because they are seeing angels, but I learned in my child psych class it is their reflexes!!!!
