They are lying to you. I ride one to work everyday. It is how I avoid fossil fuel use. I just feed my unicorn some organic grasses and oats and she's happy.

I think the sarcasm in a lot of these answers might have given you a clue. You're not beyond hope because you did after all ask this in a mythology area and didnt go make a fool of yourself by asking the people in zoology.
Unicorns never existed. There have been dozens of horse species over evolutionary time but even prehistoric horses tens of millions of years ago which were as small as 3 feet high at the shoulder never had any horns at all.
I expect you saw a Unicorn when you were young. Imaginations are a wonderful thing but you've got to accept reality. They say you should have an open mind - but not so open your brain falls out.
I find it a dangerous doctrine to just believe what you want as some people are saying. What if you came on and said the Unicorn in your mind was telling you to kill people - would they say believe it and do as it says??? Regards

Unicorns are a mixture of myth and mistaken identity, many thought the horn on the narlwhale was from a unicorn, whilst other animals in Africa have often been thought to be the unicorn. Whilst horses with artifical horns are used in movies,
most heraldic unicorns have split feet like deer and a tail like a lion! There is a lovely sad poem about the unicorn being left behind by one of Noah's sons, when the ark was built. I love unicorns, wish they did exist.

The idea of the existence of unicorns is thought to have come about in 2 ways. One: there is an antelope (I think in Australia or Africa) that was seen from the side, from a distance that was mistaken as a one horned creature. And 2: there is also a one horned sea creature in the ocean (no, not the swordfish) that may have inspired some homesick land lover artist into inventing the unicorn on paper. I think its related to the whale family.
These are just speculations.
No. They do not really exist.

I have a feeling what people thought were unicorns way back when were really rhinos or who knows maybe some horse had some type of growth growing out of its head that looked like a horn. Peoples imaginations ran pretty wild in the begining. Look at how they thought there were seamonsters in the ocean. You could also say that they exist in books as myths. But there being a real life unicorn no I rather doubt it since as far as I know no one has ever seen one . There is nothing wrong with believing in magical fantasies as long as you realize that they are fantasies.

It depends on personal belief. When I was smaller I saw things in the woods and in my exploring that can't be explained to this day, and that I sometimes wonder if I was imagining; if there are magical creatures in the world, it may be that only people willing to really believe in them are able to see them at all- aka children. The sense of reality tells me that no, its impossible, but there's another side of me that refuses to rule anything out.
I think that Unicorns certainly could have existed before, even if they don't now. But you believe what you want, and don't let anyone tell you you're stupid because of it. :)

I would say no. But who knows what existed when we were not here. They are finding all kinds of animals they thought were extinct or did not exist. Some kind of crazy fish deep down in the ocean. But I would not go around telling everyone you say a unicorn b/c they will think you are crazy. Try to get a picture if you really believe you saw one. Lots of luck

I believe in unicorns. There are many creatures that exist in another plane of existence. Our naked eyes are very limited to the things that we can see. What we can't see doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. If you did actually see a unicorn, then you are very blessed. Unicorn is very magical, and pure. Very few people are lucky enough to see a unicorn. Keep it to yourself. Don't go around telling others because people are a skeptic and don't like to believe what they can't see.

I agree with Renee. There is a myth about an island near the UK that is invisible to humans, where the fairies live. Sometimes fairies, unicorns or black dogs cross over seas now and again. Humans are seduced by them and follow them home. Time passes slowly over there, but when the humans come back home, they realise time has moved on faster at home and their families have died.

There is no scientific evidence of the unicorn ever existing, but I still think they did exist at one point or another. It says in the Bible that all the mythical creatures and heroes of old were born from when Satan's angel's laid with human women, so there ya go, unicorn!

It is said that when Noah was gathering all the animals to get on the Ark. The Unicorns thought that it would be fun to play a game of hide and seek. Unicorns are very playful cretures. Noah looked and looked until he could look no more. He couldnt find them any where. He went to the Ark to be with his family and the other animals.
Then God sent the rain.........
