I have owned about a dozen cars in my lifetime from various car manufacturers: Ford, Dodge, Mazda and Nissan.

I have found that Dodge and Nissan have been the most reliable, efficient and trouble free vehicles I have ever had. The Fords and Mazdas I've owned each had MAJOR problems occur within the first few years.

Dodge is underrated and under valued. I have owned two Dodge vehicles and both of them were awesome. No problems at all. Same with the three Nissans I've owned. Not a single problem.

By the way, Consumer Reports has a great car comparison chart. They compare all the major car manufacturers by class. Although, I believe they do tend to be somewhat bias.

All of the new car ratings have given "best of's" to Toyota, Honda and Audi. I have an 06 Accord which has been one of the best vehicles I have ever owned. I also had a 1989 Nissan Maxima and 2000 Pathfinder which were also wonderful. My father is a big fan of Toyota/Lexus. They too have been worthy vehicles.
It's always a good idea to check out Consumer Reports.

I work on cars for friends and people around close. There many good cars when they maintained properly. But, I usually see good dependability with Toyota and Honda. I like some Buicks too; Century and Park Avenue. For trucks; Ford, Chevy, Toyota, Nissan and many others. Trucks just seem to be made better structurally.

Ford Ranger, even though we don't buy Ford stuff anymore since they support gay marriage, we had a 1996 Ford Ranger at my dad's manufacturing plant. It was abused in every way possible, most of the workers learned to drive in it, and it has a layer of petrified dirt, sludge, and chemicals on it. Still runs to this day.
