It makes me so mad because New Orleans is famous and cities in Texas aren't, so they think that the people that had their homes destroyed during hurricane Katrina are more important than Rita. They barley even talked about Rita just because the Dam in New Orleans broke....I had to move away from my home in Texas because it was destroyed in Rita and I am sick and tired of people caring about Kartrina victims more than Rita victms...where is the equality in that? We are all victms right? Tell me what you think...

How many places in Texas flooded just like new orleans? how many people came to help people that had their lives destroyed by hurricane Rita...I am not saying that Rita was worse than Katrina I am just saying that we are all in this together and people still take sides no matter what. My husband and I worked in Katrina Relief and hauled FEMA trailers all over. I'm sorry you had to live through the storm and loosing your home. I have close friends who lost a home in Katrina. You are right we didn't hear enough about the devistation of Rita. If we had heard more we would have volunteered to help you too. I am so sorry.

yeah but I think Katrina was had the most destruction plus they were not getting all the good stuff. Remember the government were getting bad press for not doing enough. That New Orleans was just a place of black poor people of no urgency. Inaction and incompetence seemed to worsened the situation.
Katrina had dead everywhere and looting the scale was bigger and everywhere was underwater - so yeah a levy breaking was big stuff.

Maybe the reason why Rita was not so ranted for so long probably because the rescue and clean up was the best America could buy in comparison.

New Orleans was a tragedy waiting to happen, had it been Washington DC then adaquate preventative measures that would of prevented the drowning of the city would of been done years ago in advance.

Besides is it a competition?

You know, I understand your frustration. I do. And the victims of Rita certainly need help and deserve our attention.

However, almost 2000 people died in the aftermath of Katrina in New Orleans. 2000!!!! Dead. Gone. Drowned in the most horrible way. Trapped in their home, watching their children die. Starved in the streets, while new crews watched. It's a little more harsh than most disasters, including Rita, Andrew, etc.

You just can't compare apples to oranges in this case. Both disasters should be looked as one their own. They just aren't the same.

Let's talk about the people from Mississippi. We have people still living in tents and big families living in those small campers and shelters. There was many lives lost. And still no actual true count on how many. But instead of complaining because we didn't get talked about on the news, we got our butts out and tried to put our lives back together as much as possible.
