I work for at a gas station and we have to PLUS SELL people which I usually do ok with but I hate it becuase I feel like I am being a nuissance. Four times a year we have to PLUS SELL the Special Olympics by asking people if they want to donate a dollar to that group. It sounds easy enough but I work the graveyard shift and I usually just scan peoples things ask them if there is anything else and we are on our way.

I guess part of my problem is that I don't think that special olympics is important. We have olympics for the specials people we have olympics for the outstanding... I am a normal person what about an olympics for us? Is it so bad to be normal? Do our rewards outweigh our problems... not usually. We are a slave to the special and the outstanding... so why do I , a normal have to ask normal people for MORE support for the special?

so my question is can you change my attitude towards this olympic thing? in the end I have to make the decision to change or not but

You know, the way you are sounding guilty about your attitude is what is going to change your heart about special olympics.

The disabled people who participate in these olympics have very little in their life and are very rarely recognized for anything, and many are taken advantaged of, because of their disability, this is the one thing that makes some of them feel accomplished.

I understand not wanting to Plus Sell as you put it, I'm not much of a salesman myself, but maybe a jar for change or a sign at your cash would remind people about the event and they would volunteer the change from purchase without being asked.

No one can change anyone but themselves, this is the wisest information I have ever received and I like to pass it on, Peace.

We already have a "normal" Olympics. The Special Olympics is a lot more interesting and fun.

What is "normal" anyway?

Next time there are some Special Olympics events in your town; try to go see them. I think it will warm the coldest heart to see how the participants and their families are encouraged by the stimulus of the challenges and enthusiasm of outside persons who make the games a success.

I think that one of the things about charitable causes is that it's an HONOR to be in a position to help someone less fortunate than yourself. Imagine being a disabled child. Most times in the past, the disabled have been told or feel the message that they are not worthy, that they have nothing to offer the world; that they are useless and a burden to their families. As attitudes have changed, more people have made a concerted effort to send a different message; a message that says "you are worthy simply because you exist; you deserve to feel a sense of accomplishment; we are lucky enough to be able to help you do that; you add something amazing to the quality of our lives with your very presence".

Look at it this way; you are lucky enough not to NEED anyone else to actively decide to give you a chance. You, being a fully capable adult human being, have unfettered access to all of the opportunities that our country offers. View yourself as someone who is blessed, not as someone who has been left out.

I hope this helps just a little in changing your heart.

God bless.

Go to a special olympics event or watch on TV, if your heart doesn't break from the inspiration of these special people, you have been mistakenly placed in the human race.

Just think about the fact that you have so much to be grateful for because you are not "special" like they are. Vision the smiles it brings the each and every one of them when they participate in the games.
